Derek is a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County.  He was raised in Pasadena, where he attended public schools - graduating from Chesapeake High School.

After earning a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University, Derek had the privilege of working in Governor Ehrlich's office in Annapolis and then as Steve Schuh's Campaign Manager in his successful bid for State Delegate.  

Currently, Derek is a small business owner in the County.  He volunteers his time and energy in the community to various local non-profits; two of which he sits on the Board of Directors.  

Derek is happily married to his high school sweetheart, Kristin.
